Auto Insurance
Buying a NH car insurance policy is not like buying a loaf of bread. You need to understand what you are buying to ensure you are properly covered in a claim. What is the use of spending your hard-earned money to buy a policy if it won't work the way you thought it would in a claim?
All too often, drivers only think about their car insurance after an accident. Don't add to a stressful situation by wondering, "am I covered?"
Everyone is concerned about saving money, but by cutting corners you could end up having to pay a claim out of your own pocket for years, when for a few dollars you could have had the entire claim covered.
An example of this is by having $25,000 in property damage coverage. This seems like enough right? What if you inadvertently slide into a BMW or Mercedes in the winter? Did you know that for typically less than $10 you can increase this coverage to $100,000? We know this because we are insurance experts.
As insurance experts, we know about the many discounts that our insurance companies have to offer. Do you have a college degree? Do you like to pay your auto insurance electronically or perhaps in full? Do you have a company car? Insurance companies are constantly changing their rates and discounts, so what is a good policy for you today, may not be in the future. As your insurance agent, we seek out these discounts because it is our job to make sure you have the best possible protection at the lowest premium.
Another way for us to ensure that you have the best protection is to understand how your coverage works. There are several different sections of coverage that make up your auto policy:
- Bodily Injury Liability: This covers your legal liability, up to the limits you select, for damages caused in a covered accident. This coverage may apply to bodily injury, pain and suffering and loss of income to the injured party. If the company covers the accident for which you are sued, the company will also pay for a lawyer to defend you.
- Property Damage Liability: This covers your legal liability, up to the limits you select, for damages caused in a covered accident. This refers to the damage that your vehicle causes to another person’s property. While this usually refers to the other vehicle involved in an accident, it can also include houses, utility poles, garages, and anything else that counts as property.
- Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist: This pays for damages that you are legally entitled to recover for your bodily injury. In general, this coverage provides what you would have received from the other person's insurance company if that person had insurance. This coverage may also protect you if the person who caused the damage does not have enough insurance.
- Medical Payments: This applies no matter who is at fault and covers the cost of reasonable and necessary medical care provided to you as a result of a car accident.
- Collision: This pays for damages if your vehicle overturns or if it collides with another vehicle or object. This coverage is subject to a deductible amount that you choose. If there is a collision claim on the policy, this will be the amount that you are generally required to pay.
- Comprehensive: Covers damage caused by an event other than a collision, like fire, theft, vandalism or flood. It also coves damage from hitting an animal. Comprehensive coverage is also subject to the deductible amount on the policy.
- Rental Reimbursement: If you buy rental reimbursement coverage, the company will reimburse you for rental car charges incurred up to the policy limit, while your vehicle is being repaired after a covered accident. You can only buy rental reimbursement if you buy collision and comprehensive coverage.
