HPM Insurance is proud to sponsor Bedford's robotics team, Tech Tonix, which is participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge program for the second year in a row.
FIRST is a robotics competition where students across the globe compete over six weeks to construct game-playing robots up to 120 pounds. When HPM Insurance learned of a local team in need of sponsorship, they were happy to help.
Bedford's Tech Tonix team and was started by Linda Magay and her daughter, Amelia. "My daughter and I started this team last year because this program wasn't being offered through the school," Magay said.
"As a returning mentor, I still think this is one of the best, most comprehensive STEM programs for middle and high school-aged students," Magay continued. "This program encourages Gracious Professionalism as a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community."
STEM is based on educating students in science, technology, engineering, and math, while Gracious Professionalism is part of the guiding principles of FIRST.
"We were happy to support Bedford's FIRST Tech Challenge team," said Lyle Fulkerson, president and CEO of HPM Insurance. "Friendly competition is a great way for students to learn and have a little fun. It is a win-win."
The team is now gearing up for the State Championship on February 10, 2018, at SNHU in Manchester, NH. We wish them the best of luck!
